A Slit of Time

HKCO x XCEED

Date:

9-24 September 2022
Venue:Hong Kong Cultural Centre

Billion drops of water make up the sea, so the collective power can become its greatness; it is said that the sea contains hundreds of rivers, and a drop of water can also penetrate a stone. The form of water is ever-changing, and everyone should learn about the philosophy in it.

“The Slit of Time” uses the real-time slit scanning to generate water droplets that to present a new perspective of time-space aesthetics. In the soundscape, granular synthesis technique is in use that to sampling a piece of audio into teeny-tiny particle fragments called “grains.” The excerpts audio taken from For Four Instruments and Chinese Orchestra Next Station Moon composed by Ng King-pan.

On the key visual on the peripheral wall, the Style Transfer in artificial intelligence deep learning is used, based on the past 45 years promotional posters of the Hong Kong Chinese Orchestra. These water droplets are generated into different sizes by neural network and to symbolise the future collective power.
