Zhang Qianyuan

Zhang Qianyuan is an associate professor and master's supervisor in Suona performance at the China Conservatory of Music, as well as a doctoral candidate in music. Currently, she serves as the deputy secretary-general of the Suona Professional Committee of the China Nationalities Orchestra Society. She is the only suona player to have won the two highest gold awards in Chinese music: the Chinese Music Golden Bell Award and the Wenhua Award presented by the Ministry of Culture and Tourism. Additionally, she is the first suona player to receive funding from the National Arts Fund for Stage Art Performing Talents.


She has been selected as a Young Top-Notch Talent in philosophy and social sciences under the Thousand Talents Plan, a "Yi Yuan Xi Ying" National Excellent Young Art Talent by the Publicity Department of the CPC Central Committee, a high-level talent in Beijing's publicity and cultural system, a Young Top-Notch Talent in Beijing universities, and a Young Artistic Talent of the Beijing Federation of Literary and Art Circles. She has won gold medals at multiple international competitions, including the Vienna International Youth Music Festival, the Llangollen International Musical Eisteddfod in Wales, UK, and the "Eastern Melodies" International Music Festival in Uzbekistan. She studied Suona performance under the renowned Professor Liu Ying and musicology under the esteemed musicologist Professor Zhao Talimu.


Over the years, Qianyuan has been frequently invited to perform at major state events. Her notable appearances include cultural performances at the Great Hall of the People for the 2024 Forum on China-Africa Cooperation (FOCAC) Summit and the Third Belt and Road Forum for International Cooperation in 2023. She also performed at the concert commemorating the 50th anniversary of China-France diplomatic relations in March 2014, UNESCO state events in 2023, the opening concert of the International Modern Music Festival in 2022, the "Hundred Flowers Welcome Spring" Gala hosted by the China Federation of Literary and Art Circles in 2022, and the symphony concert celebrating the 102nd anniversary of the founding of the Communist Party of China in 2023. As a performer and inheritor of traditional Chinese music, Qianyuan is dedicated to spreading Chinese ethnic music culture across the world.
