Zhang is the Guest Concertmaster and former Concertmaster of the Hong Kong Chinese Orchestra(HKCO), currently serving as the Head of the Chinese Music Department at the Hong Kong Academy for Performing Arts. A graduate of the Shanghai Conservatory of Music, she holds a myriad of prominent industry roles, including Guest Concertmaster of the Shaanxi Broadcasting National Traditional Orchestra, Vice President of the Hong Kong Chinese Instrumental Music Association, Expert Adviser of the Hong Kong Music Office, Examiner of the Hong Kong Arts Development Council, and Erhu Guest Tutor at the Chinese University of Hong Kong. In recognition of her extensive achievements, she was recently honoured as a 2025Greater Bay Area Rising Star in Arts and Culture.
Dedicating herself to Huqin performance and artistic direction, Zhang infuses a contemporary spirit into traditional music through performances that are vigorous, soulful, and striking. She has led hundreds of acclaimed worldwide productions, notably her solo concert 'Butterfly Lovers, The Great Wall and Rhapsodies. Zhang Chongxue & HKCO! She has also showcased her artistry at top-tier international events, including South Korea's Tongyeong International Music Festival and Russia's Sochi Winter International Festival of Arts, while frequently hosting masterclasses, workshops, recordings, and broadcasts globally to disseminate Chinese folk music.
Zhang also holds a distinguished record of accolades and educational impact. She has won the Gold Award at the China Culture and Arts Government Award, First Prize at the Dunhuang Cup Competition, and the Silver Award at the Shanghai Spring International Music Festival. Her teaching excellence has been recognized with the National Outstanding Teacher Award from the China Federation of Literary and Art Circles and the Outstanding Instructor Award from China's Ministry of Culture and Tourism. Furthermore, she has co-arranged an Erhu anthology and delivered keynotes for China National Arts Fund projects, contributing significantly to cultivating global musical talent.
