Richard Tsang

Professor Richard Tsang has been for many years the Founding Chairman of the Hong Kong Composers’ Guild, Vice-Chairman of the Asian Composers’ League (ACL) and currently its Honorary member. He served as President of the International Society for Contemporary Music (ISCM) from 2002-2008, the first non-European to hold this position since the society’s establishment in 1923. He has been active as a promoter of contemporary music and has organized in the past three decades many international exchange events and festivals in this field. As a composer, Tsang’s works have been commissioned and/or performed by many local and international groups including the Boston Symphony Orchestra, Stockholm Wind Symphony Orchestra, Japan Folklore Foundation, Taiwan Municipal Chinese Orchestra, Seoul Philharmonic Orchestra, Orion Ensemble of Switzerland, Ensemble Antipodes, the Hong Kong Ballet, Hong Kong Philharmonic Orchestra, Hong Kong Chinese Orchestra, Hong Kong Sinfonietta, etc. He is also a veteran broadcaster and has worked at Radio Television Hong Kong since 1979 in various capacities as Producer, Channel Head and Head of English Programme Services. Academically, Professor Tsang is currently Professor of Music at the Education University of Hong Kong, actively involved in the research and promotion of creative musicking concept and practices.
