Yim began learning piano with an instructor at the age of six, and transitioned to self-study at the age of thirteen. A graduate of the York University Department of Mathematics in Toronto, Canada, Yim remained committed to music throughout his studies, performing publicly at shopping malls, ballet schools, and karaoke venues. Yim returned to Hong Kong in 2004 to participate
in the 16th CASH Song Writers Quest competition which he won, beginning his career as a music arranger, producer, composer, and concert director.
Yim has received numerous awards throughout the years, including the award for composition at the 34th and 37th Top Ten
Chinese Gold Songs Awards, awards for arrangement at the 2009 TVB Jade Solid Gold Best Ten Music Awards Presentation and the 2014 Ultimate Song Awards Chart Presentation, as well as awards for production at the 2012 TVB Jade Solid Gold
Best Ten Music Awards and the 2015 Cantonese Song Charts Awards Presentation. In addition, Yim has also collaborated with many acclaimed vocalists such as Alan Tam, Hins Cheung, Gigi Leung, Hacken Lee, AGA, Joyce Cheng, Alfred Hui, as
well as new singers like Gigi Yim, Yumi Chung, Chantel You, Archie Sin, and Windy Zhan, who debuted on TVB’s singing competition Stars Academy.
In 2022, Yim collaborated with the Hong Kong Philharmonic Orchestra to create the ‘Journey of Time’ concert, which featured popular songs newly arranged for orchestra and piano. In 2023, Yim received the Producer Award at the Ultimate Song Chart Awards for his work on London’s Blueprint by Hins Cheung.
