Hospital Authority Chinese Orchestra

Hospital Authority Chinese Orchestra (HACO) was founded in 2001 with the mission of promoting Chinese music, developing collaboration among HA staff and serving the community. The members consist of doctors, nurses, allied health professionals and other supporting and administrative staff of the Hospital Authority. Throughout the years, HACO has successfully organised numerous concerts and have performed with various renowned conductors and musicians.

Each year, the orchestra conducts a number of ‘Caring Concerts’ for patients and staff in various public hospitals. Besides, HACO has organised numerous workshops for various patient groups, combining both elements of music therapy and Chinese Music. The participation and endeavour of the orchestral members have cultivated a pleasant and rich platform for their creativity in music performance.

The orchestra has been invited by the Leisure and Cultural Services Department to perform in various performance venues and have been interviewed by a number of media. HACO has also been invited to perform in Sichuan and Taiwan in 2010 and 2011 respectively. Since 2011, HACO has launched different Chinese Music promotional projects in public hospitals and has been awarded the Arts Development Awards – Award for Arts Promotion (Silver) in 2011 presented by the Hong Kong Arts Development Council. With the support by various funding organisations, HACO has also launched several programs to promote and deliver care through Chinese Music performance and instrument workshops to different groups of patients and the community.
