Hong Kong City Choir

A non-professional choral group registered in Hong Kong, the Hong Kong City Choir was founded in 1999 by Mr Man Kin-ping, who is also its Music Director and Conductor. The Choir currently has a membership of over 80, all trained at various levels of vocal music. Its repertoire covers choral works in sacred, classical and contemporary music.


At the 7th China International Chorus Festival in 2004, the group received the Excellent Performance Award out of a total of 138 participating groups. In 2006, at the 4th World Choir Games, the group won the Gold Diploma for chorus singing and the Silver Diploma for women’s ensemble in the Open Competition. This was followed by a Silver Diploma for Mixed Choral Singing at the 8th China Choral Festival in December the same year. In the 6th World Choir Games in 2010, the group won two Silver and one Bronze medals in the Champions Competition. In 2016, the group participated in the 3rd China Folk Songs Choral Festival as the representative constituent from Hong Kong in the Guangdong-Hongkong-Macao Experimental Chorus, which won the Silver Award for Mixed Chorus Singing. In 2018, the group won the third prize for chamber choirs in the16th International Festival of Choral Art - Singing World held in St. Petersburg, Russia.


Over the years, the Choir has hosted or participated in close to a hundred and fifty music events in Hong Kong. By invitation of the Hong Kong Tourism Board, it performed in the ‘Hong Kong WinterFest’ in Santa’s Town for five consecutive years. It also takes part regularly in the free entertainment shows organized by the Leisure and Cultural Services Department in various districts of the territory. In 2004, as the only local chorus invited, the Choir gave two concerts in Fête de la Musique presented by the Consulate General of France in Hong Kong, Alliance Française de Hong Kong, the LCSD and the Fringe Club. In addition to local activities, the Choir also actively participates in international competitions and arts festivals overseas to engage in cultural and artistic exchange with arts groups outside Hong Kong.
