Hong Kong Bamboo Flute Society

Founded in 1996 by a group of local dizi players and enthusiasts, the Hong Kong Bamboo Flute Society is an open non-profit music body, with the mission to promote and to carry forward the art of Chinese bamboo flute music. Renowned virtuosi of dizi include, from the Mainland, Wang Tiechui, Li Zhen, Zeng Yongqing, Qu Xiang, Kong Qingbao, Jiang Guoji, Lin Wenzeng, Ma Di, Zhan Yongming, Zhang Weiliang, Dai Ya, Du Rusong et al; from Hong Kong, Cheung Heung-wah, Timothy Wilson, Sun Yongzhi, Tam Po-shek, Choo Boon Chong, Slash Lam and more; from Taiwan, Lin Guzhen and Chen Chung-Sheng et al; and from Japan, Tsukamoto Heihachiro.


The group has been invited to take part in flute music exchanges and performances in Shanghai, Guangdong, Taiwan and Singapore. In 2016, with the support of the Bamboo Flute Society under the auspices of the Chinese Musicians’ Association, it organised the Hong Kong International Di-Xiao Festival, which was the largest ever bamboo flute music arts festival in Hong Kong. Programme of the festival included concerts of renowned masters as well as artists of the younger generation, seminars of bamboo flute and pan flute masters, to present to flute lovers the heritage and development of the art and culture of bamboo flute and pan flute in Mainland China, Taiwan, Hong Kong and Macao.
