The Eugenia Lam Zheng Ensemble was founded in April 2005 and officially registered as a non-profit arts organisation in November 2006. Ms. Lam Ying directs it, and its members are composed of Lams. Members are aged 13-17 and have reached level 9 or above. Since its establishment, the organisation has been invited to public performances numerous times, including ‘Elizabeth Dream Spaceship’ and ‘Western District National Day Carnival’. Each year, ‘Eugenia Lam Zheng Ensemble Concert’ invites different organisations to have various forms of performance such as Chinese percussion, Cantonese Opera, Saxophone, Latin dance and lift boxing etc.
Additionally, the troupe often competes locally and abroad. During the ‘China International Music and Art Competition’, organised by the Hong Kong Cultural Federation in 2006, they won the silver medal and were awarded as ‘The Bright Prospect Guzheng Group’.
In May 2010, the organisation won three gold and one silver medal at the 3rd Hong Kong Youth Performance Arts Festival. During the Harbin Summer Concert and Huaxia Cup International Youth Guzheng Competition in August of the same year, they won two golds and three silvers.
During The 2nd International Guzheng Contest in July 2011, the Eugenia Lam Zheng Ensemble participated in the finals and achieved a silver medal of ‘Professional Ensemble Group’. In the same year, they participated in the Cross-Strait (Taiwan Cup) Guzheng competition in Taiwan and achieved four silver and one bronze medal.
In January 2013, the troupe competed in the ‘Youth Art Talent Show’ organised by the Central and Western District Council and won second place. Within a month, they were invited to the 2013 Outstanding Guzheng Troupe Performance in Beijing and awarded the ‘Best Outstanding Performance’.
At the 2014 Victoria Cup Asian Music and Dance Art Festival (Hong Kong) National Instrumental Music Competition, the organisation received the "Senior Ensemble Group" gold medal.
In August 2016, the Troupe won the silver award for Ensemble Group at the 3rd International Youth Guzheng Competition.
In 2018, the organisation received the silver award at The 3rd Dunhuang Cup Chinese Guzheng Art Elite Exhibition in Shanghai. The Troupe won the Grandmaster Cup at The 6th Hong Kong International Music Festival (Ensemble Group) in May 2019. The orchestra was awarded a silver medal in Ensemble Open Group at the Nan Feng International Music Competition in August 2019.
During The 7th Hong Kong International Music Festival (‘Grandmaster Cup’ - August 2020), the group won the Champion of the Open Group Ensemble Award.
In June 2021, the organisation participated in The 8th Hong Kong International Music Festival ‘Grandmaster Cup’ and won second place in the Ensemble Open Group. In July 2021, the troupe received a gold medal in The 7th International Zheng Contest.
Many Eugenia Lam Zheng Ensemble members participate in competitions as soloists and have won numerous prizes at the Hong Kong Schools Music Festival. They have also achieved excellent results at the Central Conservatory of Music. Moreover, some group members are more interested in music development and have been admitted by music departments of famous worldwide in Hong Kong and abroad.
