Remark
Ensemble Concert

Inspired by the versatility of the huqin family, “Strings Resound Across China” is an epic musical journey spanning the vast lands of China celebrating the myriad landscapes and cultural diversity of the nation. Through bow movements and vibrating strings, landscapes of mountains and rivers as well as the human spirit are transformed into all-encompassing, deeply moving melodies.

Led and curated by conductor-composer Xiao Chao, this concert is arranged according to six themes: Ancient Rhymes of the Central Plains, Misty Rain of Jiangnan, Heroic Songs of the Northwest, Sounds of the Grasslands, New Melodies of Lingnan and South of the Colourful Clouds. According to Xiao’s unique artistic vision, traditional frameworks combine with contemporary aesthetics resulting in classical elegance and modern expression across different ensemble formats.

From the ancient Central Plains to graceful Jiangnan water towns, the majestic Northwest plateau to the vast northern grasslands, extending to the mountains of Lingnan and the valleys of Yunnan, the huqin is like a nimble brush depicting emotions and vistas. Folk melodies from different regions intertwine with modern symphonic colours, evoking the Chinese map through sound.

Emotions abound with music as it is heard throughout the land. Step into this scrumptious feast led by an outstanding young conductor, experience the powerful cultural pulse flowing through our veins, and witness the brilliant spark that the art of huqin continues to ignite in our contemporary era.
