Sy Long Hei

Sheng player of the Hong Kong Young Chinese Orchestra, Sy joined the orchestra in 2022. Born in Hong Kong, Sy began learning the sheng at S.K.H. Saint Peter’s Primary School under instructor Wong Tsz-sau, who remains his instructor today. Sy actively performs in his school’s Chinese orchestra and has represented his school in numerous Chinese orchestra contests and extracurricular concerts, under the direction of Lai Ka Tai, building a strong foundation in music. Sy is currently enrolled at La Salle College where he serves as Principal Sheng of the school’s Chinese orchestra.


In 2021, Sy participated in the 73rd Hong Kong Schools Music Festival and was named champion in the category of junior sheng solo, and returned the following year to be named the champion of advanced sheng solo. In 2022, Sy became a sheng player for the Hong Kong Chinese Orchestra’s affiliated Hong Kong Young Chinese Orchestra, participating in numerous performances and exchanges in order to hone his technique and enrich his stage experience. Sy’s performances included playing the guan and percussion at the ‘Preservation and Perpetuation of the Classics 2023’ and ‘Resorts World One Inaugural Event (Port Stay)’ concerts, as well as performances as the RTHK 95th Anniversary of Broadcasting Top Ten Chinese Songs’ awards concert, and the ‘Kwai Tsing District Chinese Orchestra Concert in Celebration of the 73rd Anniversary of the Founding of the People’s Republic of China’.
