Lu Yiwen

Lu Yiwen is a young erhu artist currently studying for a Master’s degree at the Shanghai Conservatory of Music. She entered the primary school affiliated to the Conservatory in 2000 where her teachers included Liu Jie. She continued her studies at the middle school and then the Conservatory proper in 2009, where she was under the tutelage of Chen Chunyuan. While at the Conservatory, she also benefitted from the coaching of the famous virtuoso, Min Huifen. Lu has been pursuing her Master’s degree studies since 2013. 


In 2014, Lu won the accolade as one of the ‘New Top Ten Erhu Artists of China’. The following year, she won an Outstanding Rookie Award at the 32nd Shanghai Spring International Music Festival. In 2016, she was chosen to be on the delegation of President Xi Jinping’s visit to Egypt and performed at the Opening Ceremony of the China-Egypt Cultural Year 2016. Other engagements included performing solo with the Taipei Chinese Orchestra, Shanghai Symphony Orchestra, Quanta Philharmonic Orchestra of Taiwan, Qingdao Symphony Orchestra, Shanghai Chinese Orchestra, Orchestre Philharmonique Royal de Liège, Frankfurt Radio Symphony Orchestra, Israel Contemporary Orchestra, Jiangsu National Music Ensemble, Jilin Chinese Orchestra etc.. She has performed in Germany, Switzerland, Austria, Belgium, Israel, Japan, Egypt, Taiwan and Hong Kong to critical acclaim.


The prizes and awards she has won include:

2012 Gold Prize in Erhu Invitation Competition; and Best Performance with Erhu Rhapsody No. 4 at the Shanghai Spring International Music Festival;

2012 Best Performance Award in Erhu - Youth Section, at the 4th Wenhua Awards;

2012 First Prize at the ‘Hsinchu Cup’ International Erhu Competition, Taiwan;

2013 Gold Award at the first Huang Haihuai Erhu Awards;

2013 Silver Award in Erhu at the 9th Chinese Golden Bell Awards for Chinese Music;

2015 Gold Award in Erhu at the 10th Chinese Golden Bell Awards for Music.
