Lin Yu-hsien

Dizi virtuoso of the Hong Kong Chinese Orchestra, Lin joined the HKCO in 2008. A native of Kaohsiung, she graduated from the Chinese Music department of TNUA. Lin first began learning the dizi under PanPo-An and later went on to major in dizi and conducting at TNUA under the instruction of Chen Chung-Sheng and Ku Pao-Wen; after this, Lin further honed her skills with help from masters Dai Ya, Yu Xunfa, Zhan Yongming, and Ye Hongqi. During her studies in Taiwan, Lin regularly performed dizi solos, accruing rich experience in on-stage performance. She also traveled abroad with TNUA on several occasions for ensemble performances in Switzerland, Italy, and the United States.


Lin is a highly expressive performer who focuses closely on the flow of the music, and she excels at usinga diverse range of techniques when performing different genres. Since joining HKCO, Lin has gained vast experience collaborating in cross-genre performances, often performing the part of lead dizi in new pieces.She spares no effort in promoting Chinese music and is devoted to exploring new possibilities for dizi performance. Lin has given multiple cross-genre performances for solo dizi and dance or solo dizi and theatre, in collaboration with different art troupes. She excels at understanding and interpreting differentstyles and genres of music, and particularly focuses on applying both traditional and new techniques in her performances. In 2016, Lin was invited by the Taipei Chinese Orchestra and conductor Liu Chiang-Pin toperform in the debut of dizi ensemble composition by Ng King-pan, The Red Heartsease; in 2013, Lin wasinvited by the Hong Kong YWCA Chinese Orchestra and conductor Zhang-Lie to perform the debut of a dizi arrangement of the piece Playing Celestials; she regularly receives invitations to perform live or record performances for plays, pop music albums, television programs, and concerts.
