Li Li

Li Li is currently a huqin virtuoso of the Hong Kong Chinese Orchestra. In 1998, he entered the middle school affiliated to the Wuhan Conservatory of Music with top marks in the enrolment examination, and was awarded a full government subsidy. There he was trained under Bie Xiaoxia. He entered the Central Conservatory of Music in 2004 where he studied Traditional Instruments under Prof Zhao Hanyang. Concurrently he trained in banhu and gaohu as specialisms under Professors Li Heng and Tian Zaili. Upon graduating in 2008 with a Bachelor’s degree, he enrolled in the Master’s degree programme at the Traditional Instruments Department of the Conservatory in the same year, and was awarded a Master of Arts degree in 2011. He joined the Macao Chinese Orchestra while he was studying for his Master’s degree, and was concurrently a lecturer for electives at the Central Conservatory of Music.


Li is a winner of many accolades, including a Class One Award at the first ‘TT-art Cup’ Traditional Instruments Competition of the Wuhan Conservatory of Music, an Outstanding Performance of Instrumental Music Award at the ‘CAV Cup’ International Erhu Invitation Competition – Youth Specialism section, and a Gold Award at the Huaxia Chinese Instrumental Music Competition of Asia – Beijing. He was awarded double scholarships at the entrance examination to the Central Conservatory of Music in 2004, and the National Motivational Scholarship of the Conservatory in 2007. He joined the faculty as a teacher of specialism electives in the following year. He was presented with an Outstanding Teacher Award by the China Committee of Educationists and the Chinese Traditional Culture Promotion Society in Beijing in 2009.
