Huang Mengla

Huang Mengla is one of the most active violinists on the world stage. He won the 49th Paganini International Violin Competition at the age of 22, and also received the Renato De Barbieri Memorial Award for the best interpretation of Paganini's Caprices and the Mario Ruminelli Memorial Award in this competition. He was dubbed “Paganini of the East” because of this.

Ever since his 2001 debut as a solo violinist at the Alice Tully Hall and Lincoln Center in New York, Huang has been active on the international music scene. He performed at the opening  concert of the National Centre for Performing Arts in Beijing; gave a recital at the world famous Prague Spring International Music Festival, which made him the first Chinese artist to enjoy such an honour; and went on highly successful tours to China, Japan and Europe with the Sinfonieorchester Basel, NHK Symphony Orchestra, Dresden Staatskapelle, Czech Philharmonic Orchestra, National Symphony Orchestra of Mexico and many more top international orchestras.

During the 2016-17 season, he completed his concert tour of a dozen major cities in China with the daunting Paganini’s 24 Caprices for solo violin. It marked the 15th anniversary since his laureate winning at the Paganini International Violin Competition, and was another milestone in his professional career.

Huang is currently on the faculty of the Shanghai Conservatory of Music. He has also served as a guest professor of the Ishikawa Music Academy in Japan for many years, and was a member of the jury in major competitions in China and other parts of the world, such as the Sendai International Violin Competition.

Huang also actively participates in many public welfare and charity activities, such as the Hong Kong fundraising concert after the Wenchuan earthquake, the charity show after the Sendai tsunami, the joint charity performance between BesTV and Shanghai Soong Ching Ling Foundation, etc. He is also the volunteer instructor for young leukemia patients at the Shanghai Children's Medical Center. In 2018, he was named the Public Welfare Ambassdaor of BesTV.
