DoubleBeats

The percussion duo, DoubleBeats, was founded by Ni Fan from China and Lukas Böhm from Germany in Berlin in 2012.  Ni is winner of the German Prix Montblanc 2013, and Böhm, a percussion virtuoso in Germany. Their unique performing style bedazzled the audience and they soon became one of the most sought after percussion ensembles in the world. In 2015, they were awarded the Ritter Prize and an endowment of €15,000 by the Oscar und Vera Ritter-Stiftung.

Currently, the two young musicians are studying for a doctoral degree in chamber music at the Hanns Eisler School of Music in Berlin under the supervision of world-renowned percussionist Li Biao, Principal Timpanist of Berliner Philharmoniker Rainer Seegers and Principal Percussionist of Berliner Philharmoniker Franz Schindlbeck.

DoubleBeats released their debut album 'Fascination of Percussion' in 2015.  Recorded at the Berliner Philharmonie and produced by Grammy award winner Jakob Händel, the album includes works by Jacob ter Veldhuis, Emmanuel Séjourné, Ney Rosauro and more, as well as adaptations of chamber music by Bach and Gershwin. The recording was brilliantly supported by Li Biao and his chamber group as well as percussionists of the Berliner Philharmoniker.  Their latest album is Mission:Berlin, released in July 2019 under the Naxos label.  Actively performing on the concert stage aside, the duo is also dedicated to music education and promotion.  As scholars of the Yehudi Menuhin ‘Live Music Now’ Association, they have frequently participated in children and youth projects organised by the Berliner Philharmoniker and Foundation in order to reach out to the young and guide them.

DoubleBeats is a Yamaha exclusive recording artist and endorser of Sabian Cymbals.
