Chen Chen

Chen graduated from the Hong Kong Academy of Performing Arts. By receiving full scholarships, he obtained his two Master Degrees from the Royal Academy of Music London and the Welsh International Academy of Voice, studied under the world renowned soprano Dame Kiri Te Kanawa and tenor Dennis O’Neill.

Chen gave regular solo recitals in different music festivals in Europe, namely the Engadin Festival, the Project of Martha Argerich of the Lugano Festival in Switzerland and the Italia Mia Festival Chen was also the prize winner of the 7th International Lyrique Competition in Belgium. Recently, he appeared in the Edinburgh International Festival performing Buddha’s Passion under the composer Maestro Tan Dun’s baton. He also gave solo concert at the Muziekgebouw in Amsterdam, the Netherlands, earlier in 2023.

Chen’s operatic appearances include the following roles: Turiddu in Cavalleria Rusticana, Tebaldo in Bellini’s I Capuletti e I Montecchi, Ferrando in Mozart’s opera Cosi fan tutte; Jason in Cherubini’s opera Medee; Lord Percy in Donizetti’ s opera Anna Bolena; Don Jose in Bizet’s opera Carmen; Rinuccio in Puccini’s opera Gianni Schicchi, Cassio in Verdi’s Otello and Wilheim in Thomas’s opera Mignon. Locally, He was engaged as the role of President Roosevelt in the new opera Datong of Hong Kong Arts Festival 2015.

Recently, he was invited by Maestro Tan Dun to perform as Tenor solo in Buddha’s Passion at the 2023 Edinburgh Music Festival Opening Concert.
