The Legend of Mulan

Co-organizer:

"The Legend of Mulan" Short Intro.

The Hong Kong Chinese Orchestra joins hands with the Chung Ying Theatre Company to create a totally unexpected perspective on the well-known story of Hua Mulan, the young girl who went into the army in her father's place disguised as a man. This time, it's not about fighting in battles, but competing on the ping-pong table. There is even a moral attached to it, which is friendship should ride above the spirit of the game.

Here is the story: York always comes out a winner on the ping-pong table. He does it by hook or by crook - and invariably the latter. But when Emil, a student who has just transferred from another school, beats him by sheer sport skills, York blows his top and resorts to a die-hard training method purportedly to be used by Hua Mulan when she went into the army. He finally succeeds and gets it even with Emil. The former foes become friends.

But when York invites Emil to take part in the interschool competition so as to find out who is the better player on the open field, Emil says 'no way'. Now why?

"The Legend of Mulan" marks the third collaboration between the HKCO and Chung Ying, after "La Luna" and "The Long and Winding Silk Road". It will be music, drama and fun all rolled in one, in typical Hong Kong tongue-in-cheek style.
