A history of twenty-five years is definitely a cause to celebrate. And indeed we did. At the "Hong Kong Chinese Orchestra Silver Jubilee Concert", we made it a commemorative occasion as we not only looked back, but also looked forward, because it was also the opening concert of our 26th Orchestral Season. It was also the Mid-Autumn Festival, a time for reunions and happy gatherings. Everything pointed to the auspicious hour. We were honoured to have the Chief Executive of Hong Kong SAR, the Hon. Tung Chee Hwa with us on the opening night of the concert series.

The concert was also graced by a galaxy of stars, because we invited some of our old friends - Liza Wang of television, film and Chinese opera fame; Law Kar-ying, a pillar of local Cantonese Opera; Barbara Fei and Ella Kiang, famous vocalists of Hong Kong; and Liu Shih-kun and Mo Cheung-yu, two renowned pianists - to share the stage with us in a programme that showcased the diversity of the Hong Kong Chinese Orchestra in music over the quarter of a century. The compere on the occasion was Candy Chea, the famed golden voice of local broadcasting.

The last part of the programme was The Silver Jubilee Medley, which gave a cross section of the most representative musical occasions of the Orchestra together with a video-show of archival footage. As the Orchestra played the "golden oldies" on stage, the audience down there revisited the yesteryears as we looked forward to an even brighter tomorrow for Hong Kong.

I would like to thank all our guest performers for granting us the copyright for this recording, and Philips-Wave Motion SACD Production Centre for their dedicated efforts in producing this DVD.
