Sylvain Gagnon

Coming from Montreal, Sylvain Gagnon has extensive international touring and recording experience. He is a virtuoso of jazz double bass and electric Bass playing and has experience in music from many continents and styles ranging from rock to standard jazz, from Carnatic (classical music from South India) to African music, from funk to Latin music, from solo to big band, from string quartet to Hong Kong Philharmonic. Sylvain first came to Hong Kong as he was invited to play some concerts with Eugene Pao and Ted Lo.

International artists Sylvain has collaborated with include Bob Mintzer, Eric Marienthal, Joey Calderazzo, Jeff "Tain" Watts, Angelo Debarre, James Morrison, Olivia Newton-John, Tiger Okoshi, Scott Hamilton, DD Jackson, James Gelfand, Daniel Lavoie, Magella Cormier, etc. From Hong Kong, they include Leon Lai, Sandy Lam, Miriam Yeung, Bianca Wu, Justin Lo, Chris Wong, George Lam, Teddy Robin, Jacky Cheung, Jackie Chan, William So, Priscilla Chan, Roman Tam, Eugene Pao, Tsai Chin from Taiwan, and many more. The orchestras he has collaborated with include the Hong Kong Philharmonic Orchestra and the City Chamber Orchestra of Hong Kong. In China, he has performed for popular TV programmes Voice of China, Mask Kings as well as on shows of famous stars like Han Hong. He has also played on hundreds of CDs, dozens of movie soundtracks, toured internationally with his own band and many internationally acclaimed musicians. He also appeared in many movies, teleseries and talk shows as a musician.

He studied with Don Thompson, Charlie Haden, John Patitucci, Dave Holland, Kay Eckhardt, Gary Willis, Chad LB. His latest CD, Blue Moon, has been a best seller in Hong Kong.
