Traditional wind instruments for unconventional sounds

The suona, or shawn as known in the Near East, has a history of two thousand years. The people in Guangdong call it “dida”, an onomatopoeic name for the sound it makes. It used to be treated as an accompanying instrument for festive occasions, in weddings or funerals, and in Chinese theatrical performances. But its image is going to be totally revamped in this concert. For the first time, a full range of traditional and remodeled versions of the suona in different sizes and registers will be showcased. Be ready for the surprise in store!
