Chan
Ming-chi Conductor
- A
noted local composer, Chan is currently Assistant Conductor (Research/Education)
of the Hong Kong Chinese Orchestra (HKCO).
- Chan
learned conducting under Yan Huichang, Tsung Yeh, Johannes Schlaefli,
Mariusz Smolig and Yu Feng. For music composition, he studied under
Law Wing Fai, Jo Kondo, Ishii Maki, Akira Minami, Isao Matsushita and
Kenchiro Urada.
- He
is the recipient of the Hong Kong Young Musicians' Award (1987), the
Hong Kong Young Composer's Award and Best Performance Award (1991),
Outstanding Stage Art Award from the Agency for Cultural Affairs of
Japan (1992), an outstanding prize from the Taiwan Prefecture Symphony
Orchestra (1994) and an Akiyoshidai International Composition Award
(1996).
- In
2000, his composition Qi Yun Xiao Sa was selected by the International
Society of Contemporary Music Festival (Luxemburg); Ji¡DQi¡DShen
was selected as one of ten recommended pieces 2001 by the International
Music Council, UNESCO; and Reverberation was selected by Federation
Music Festival in Melbourne in 2001.
David Yeung Host
Yeung
is currently a programme host for the station's weekday evening programme
"Moments Musicaux" and the weekend youth programme "Music
Attractions". He is the organist and chorus conductor of St Philip's
Church, Hong Kong Sheng Kung Hui.
He
graduated from The Hong Kong Academy for Performing Arts, where he studied
under Eva Lue. He later studied piano performance under Maria Ho in Kingston
University, UK.
Yu Suet-ying Host
- Apart
from being a secondary school teacher, Yu is currently a programme host
of the RTHK Radio 4's "Music Attractions" and a member of
the a capella vocal octet The Gay Singers.
- She
studied the pipe organ under Antonio Chung-kong Poon and Wong Kin-yu.
As resident organist of the Chinese Rhenish Church in Kowloon for years,
Yu holds a diploma in organ performance from the Trinity College of
Music, UK (1997).
Chan Kam-fai Cantonese Opera Gongs and Drums
- Chan
is a professional musician playing Chinese music. Born and grew up in
Hong Kong, he learned the ruan and the liuqin under the renowned liuqin
performer and music instrument innovation expert, Yuen Shi-chun. He
is currently a musician with the HKCO playing the daruan.
- He
gave a solo recital performing on 13 instruments in 2002 that cover
the four categories of Chinese musical instruments and caused a sensation
on the local Chinese music scene.
