ISCM World Music Days
2002 Hong Kong ó Closing Concert
Doming
Lam, esteemed as ìThe Father of Modern Music in Hong Kongî,
will bring his new arrangement of A Silent Prayer ó a piece that
has touched numerous hearts over the years since it was premiered ó
back to Hong Kong from Canada where he now lives, to attend this world-class
event for composers. At the Closing Concert for the ISCM World Music Days
2002, the HKCO will be performing, other than A Silent Prayer, the works
of three other composers who have won recognition on the international
music scene ó Law Wing-fai, Chung Yiu-kwong and Chan Ming-chi:
Ink Spirit which is a calligraphic interpretation of music, The Eternal
City which is a lingering flow of musical thoughts, and Windy Days which
is played on the Japanese koto. Also featured on the programme are The
Pacifika Rondo by Lou Harrison from the US, and Melodies of Western Yunnan
by the Chinese composer Guo Wenjing. This occasion will also be a time
when the six composers and the Orchestra together stand up to the challenges
and assessment of international dimensions. You are all welcome to attend
this concert and join the ranks of the assessors.
