Guo Yazhi
/ Guanzi

  • Formerly on the teaching staff of the Central Conservatory of Music in China, Guo is currently the Suona Principal of the HKCO.
  • He stuns the music world with his performance of the modernistic suona concerto, played on the improvised removable reed suona.  He participated in the International Pro Musicis Competition held in New York in 1998, and won the only Grand Prize in the Finals.
  • In the same year, he was selected by the Ministry of Culture of China as one of the most outstanding musicians in China. He performed the suona and the saxophone on the occasion of President Bill Clinton’s visit to China and won the applause of the leaders of the two countries. He was also invited to give solo recitals in Philadelphia, Los Angeles, Boston and New York in 1999 and returned for another tour in 2001.

Lo Chun-wo / Gehu

  • A local famous soprano vocalist well-known for her contributions to music, Fei was invited on many occasions to perform in New Zealand, the United States, Beijing, Shanghai and Guangzhou in China, and many other South East Asian countries. She is dedicated to the promotion of choral arts in Hong Kong and has presented and hosted many international choral seminars and conferences in recent years.

  • She is currently a member of the Hong Kong Arts Development Council; Music Director and Conductor of the Allegro Singers; Chairman of the Hong Kong Association of Choral Societies; and Senior Music Advisor of HKCO. Fei was also awarded the Bronze Bauhinia star by the Chief Executive The Honourable Tung Chee Hwa of the Hong Kong Special Administrative Region of the People's Republic of China in 2001.

Chi Liming / Tenor 

  • A prize-winning cellist and gehu soloist, Lo is the recipient of the Outstanding Performance Award at the National Cello Competition in China.  He is currently the Assistant Gehu Principal of the HKCO. 

  • Lo was, at various times of his career, Principal Cello with two professional orchestras in China, a full-time teacher at the Department of Music of the Beijing Central University for Nationalities, a part-time associate professor in music at the Sichuan Institute of Film and Television in China and a part-time instructor and the Music Office of Hong Kong.

Yim Hok-man / Percussion 

  • Being a renowned percussionist, Yim is currently Deputy Concertmaster cum Percussion Principal.

  • Yim has visited many countries in the world and many cities in China.  Yim was named "Artist of the Year 1999" by the Hong Kong Artists' Guild.

  • His solo albums Master of Chinese Percussion - Yim Hok-man (1) and Master of Chinese Percussion - Yim Hok-man (2) are considered quintessential representation of Yim's knowledge of percussion.  Released for international distribution in 1998 and 1999, they were highly acclaimed in the music and acoustics milieux, and are selling very well in every part of the world.
