Hong Kong Chinese Orchestra 30th Orchestral Season Programme Release
From Tradition to Innovation A Prized Pearl to Hong Kong
This September, the Hong Kong Chinese Orchestra will be entering its 30th Orchestral Season.
The pearl on the cover of the Orchestral Season brochure will be a logo of HKCO used throughout their promotion for the year. Hong Kong has long been known as ¡¥The Pearl of the Orient¡¦, and as its cultural ambassador serving the community for more than thirty years, the HKCO is also a prized pearl to the people of Hong Kong.
Mr Yan Huichang, HKCO Artistic Director, says, "Now, as we look back on the twenty-nine years of our history, in every step we took or in every accolade we received, we can see the concern and the support of the citizens, the business sectors, supporting organizations and the Government of Hong Kong, as well as the zealous efforts of the Council, the artistic advisers, the generations of Music Directors, members of the Orchestra and our administrative staff. We have grown from strength to strength thanks to the artistic input from local and international composers, artists, and performing groups. I would like to take this opportunity to thank all our friends and colleagues - without you, we could not have achieved so much."
For this reason, in the coming orchestral season, HKCO will take a nostalgic look at the ¡¥good old days¡¦: old friends will be remembered in the concert series named ¡§HKCO & Friends¡¨ and ¡§A Tribute to Ng Tai-kong¡¨, a concert with remembrance of the first Music Director of HKCO. A new concert series entitled ¡§The HKCO Virtuosi¡¨ will be launched as a platform to showcase the outstanding music talent of HKCO members who shine like pearls with their lustre.
Other programmes in the coming season will include HKCO ever popular Music from the Heart series and ¡§the Valentine Concert¡¨, as well as the outreach programmes. The Hong Kong Drum Festival will be into its fourth year. World renowned percussion groups, the Ear Massage Quartet from Mexico and the Ju Percussion Group from Taiwan, will join hands with local percussion maestros and virtuosi to drum up an exciting party for the citizens of Hong Kong.
¡§A life in the arts is a perpetual search.¡¨ For all these decades, the HKCO has never slackened in their drive to help create original music. They have commissioned numerous composers and arrangers all over the world to add to our repertoires. This year, apart from the usual programmes dedicated to Hong Kong¡¦s composers, the ¡¥Cadenza of Hong Kong¡¦ will be launched. Field trips to East Quangdong and workshops on Chinese Orchestra will be organized for composers and people who are interested in the exploration of Chinese music.
An online streaming service will be launched during June and July. Customers can listen to the trail version of music pieces from HKCO website. In September, the download service will be officially implemented with full version music pieces, online concerts and mobile ring tone will be available for download. Friends in Hong Kong and places around the world could enjoy our music round the clock with no geographical boundaries.
